5. Summaries, 16/11/2015 - 29/11/2015

Week 8-9
Each class summarizes the answers received from other Learning Circle partners and post them to the wiki site.

Summary te1, Agrani School and College, Bangladesh

Our friends from te3 say that they are allowed to carry mobile phones in the schools. Its not a problem. They say that “Mobile does not create any problem; actually sometimes it can be helpful. We think that carrying mobile phone in school is not a problem unless the students use them in class. Students can use mobile phones to phone their parents in case they get sick since it is quicker than asking a teacher.”

Our friends from te4 say that they are not allowed to use phones during class hours but some of us does. Using phones creates problems in concentrating into the lessons sometimes, but that help us develop some new skills. I think that phones will be used more and more, one day in the future, we’ll learn our school lessons on the phone.”

Our friends from te5 say that they can bring mobile phone in schools. But when we use phones during lessons their teachers are sure that we are playing or entertaining instead of studying. Sometimes they are right, of course. And they have some problems being careless.

Our friends from te9 say that they are not allowed to bring mobile phones in class. But some of them use it even during classes, behind the teachers* back. That creates a problem in concentrating because they're not paining attention to the teacher and they take a lot of low grades. Still, they believe that maybe, phones may be useful for some researches, for fast calculations, or others.

The beautiful  lyrics of te10 is very enjoyable. Through the lyrics they express how fond they are of their mobile phones. We love them.

Summary te3, Colegiul Economic Buzau, Romania, teacher Popa Magdalena

All our new friends from the different high schools said that they could not imagine a world in which they are the only ones without access to technology and that without it they would feel alienated and cut from society since most things these days revolve around technology, however they think that it wouldn't be bad if from time to time we would take a day off and not use any tech for the duration of it because it will allow us to do other activities like reading or just relaxing

Summary te4, Colegiul Economic Buzau, Romania, teacher Popa Maria

The high school  Nicolae Iorga , teacher Raluca Zazuleac  , Romania responded they believe that medicine is evolving more and more every day and it`s a good thing because in the future there could be found a lot of other cures for some diseases. And they said technology is another big domain that will evolve a lot.

A  group from our high school , Colegiul Economic  Buzau , teacher  Popa Magdalena responded affirmative , technology has evolved in many fields and in the future we will probably see things we only dreamed of , like holograms or fully functional robots with high intelligence and that will replace humans in dangerous jobs.

Those from Agrani School and College, Bangladesh, responded that technology has supreme reign in all spheres of life;

Using technology we have made the impossible possible. They dream that by using technology the human being will be able to do which are not yet done.;

They saytechnology can be used to control the natural forces like wind, earthquake, cyclone, tsunami, storm, etc.;

And using technology, we can stop war and make the world a peaceful place.

Those from Kirovograd Collegium, Ukraine said that they are sure it would be the fields of medicine and food industry. Speaking about food industry, they say that Chemistry is very developed and in the nearest future we'll face with great discoveries in this field.

Those of the Székely Mihály Szakképző Iskola, Hungary said some of the most significant changes that technology has delivered in the last three decades have been in the field of productivity and communication. Communication is instantaneous, simple and cheap. And we can transmit documents, videos and images anywhere in the world, instantly and at no cost. You need never be out of reach.

And the last answer that we   received was from the high school Osnovna šola Dornberk , Slovenia , teacher Petra Gabriel and they also responded that technology has indeed evolved a lot in various fields , especially in the last decades. Most of the developments are meant to make our lives easier, especially technological improvements in the fields of medicine and pharmacy. They think we will use devices that will be better and more efficient, so the discovery and curability of diseases will be faster and technology will be more user-friendly both for the medical staff and for the patients.

Summary te5, Colegiul Economic Buzau, Romania, teacher Postovei Catalina, Ilie Catalina

What kind of new technologies you use during

                                your classes  and how?

Do you use mobile phones during your classes ?

In most of the schools the situation is similar.

In our school we may not really use the latest technology, but in the last few years it has been equipped with quite a few modern electronic devices.

If we need to look for some kind of information that we can’t find in books, we can go to the computer room or also the library. We use video projector, smart boards, PC, CD player for some projects and presentations with the teacher of course.

One of the teachers, sometimes come to class with tape recorder to listen to the lessons and to make practical applications.

In other subjects, the teacher comes with the laptop and video projector to present us different power-point materials. Also, teacher explain us when we are watching the material to understand better .

Rules  prohibit us from using phones during classes, without exception.

But we can not live without them….this is whz some collegues make a song( the music is from Another brick in the wall- Pink Floyd)

WE ALL NEED OUR PHONES

We all need our mobile phones now
Teachers say we cannot use them
We can't use them in the classroom
Teachers, leave us kids alone!
Please open your eyes now,
We all need our phones.

Without them we are zeros,
But with them we are heroes
This is true
We're not pretending
We can't live without our phones
So, teachers, leave our kids alone

Lets sing it together!

Summary te6, Kirovograd Collegium, Ukraine

When we have read and analised all answers we realized that there are two points of view.

The majority of students  consider  life without devices  being  boring, monotonous  and slow. They have been accustomed to using the ICT in their everyday  life. They  cannot  think of a single day without them.  They will  lose all interest of life without them . It will be as they  have come to a dark age where human civilization just started. Some students think that life without electronic devices would be even impossible. They couldn’t check Facebook and Snapchat so they wouldn’t know what is happening to their friends. They also wouldn’t be able to call them. Instead they would have to visit them in person. Most students set the alarm on their mobile phones, and they wouldn’t be able to do that – they would have to buy alarm clocks.

But another point of view is that life could be more beautiful than now. These students think that all those complicated things, like computers, mobile phones or the Internet just distance them from the loved ones. Technology is destroying our world, because there is less conversation in real life and people have friends on the Internet, although they don’t know them in person! People could be closer to nature, could listen to the birds singinghave more time with their families, friends and favourite books , play games with little sisters and brothers and be psychologically and physically healthy without electronic devices.

Summary te9, Liceul

The answers that you gave us are really good and we appreciate your time and the fact that we think alike. At first the techonology is an easier mode to check informations and help us in many situations but there are bad things too. The world became addicted to phones, pcs etc witch replaces human interactions, which give us less time and motivotation to study etc
In future, 30 years from now if techonoly continues to evoluate this fast it's going to be even worse. Of course on one side it is a good thing but on the other side teenagers will be completely blinded by techonoly. This will be on the first place and not a normal and echilibrate life. It is almost unimmaginable how technology has developed in the field of photography, and there are many changes almost on a daily-bases. A new phone comes out and a better photography application is available. We seldom use cameras any more, because it is more simple to take pictures with our phones and later process them.

We feel it is a shame that when we go for a walk and see something nice, we usually take a picture with our mobile phone. Without mobiles we would just enjoy the view and try to memorize it.
We also asked if we could gain immortality some day, as long as medicine is evolving. The answer is no but some horrible diseases might be treated, like leukemia, astm, ebola etc.
Eventually we would like to thank to everyone for your time and for your answers. Thank you all.

Summary te10, Osnovna šola Dornberk, Slovenia, Petra

We must stop the spreading of invasive plants

                                 Made by Sara Ružic

Our school wanted to connect the use of modern technology with the expanding threat of harmful invasive species. We wanted to find out, if it is possible to stop invasive plants from expanding and warn humans about invasive species by using new technology (ICT).

1.

The first thing we did was explore the existence of invasive species in our area. Students worked together with teachers and soon we made a list of these plants in our area. We found out that the most invasive species in Slovenia are: ambrosia, ailanthus, robinia pseudoacacia (black locust), rudbeckia (black-eyed-susans), aster dumosus, solidago gigantea (giant goldenrod), Fallopia japonica (Japanese knotweed) , erigeron annuus (annual fleabane) and other species. We couldn't find any examples of Japanese knotweed in the vicinity of Dornberk and Prvačina, also the occurrence of goldenrod was quite scarce.

2.

We then wanted to determine what has already been done in the field of invasive plants. So far, on a local level, the inhabitants were informed about invasive species through leaflets, posters and advertisements on the radio and educational - informative TV programmes. At present the authorities have only issued the order of removal and eradication of ambrosia, where the owners of land where ambrosia grows have to take care of it. There were a few actions designed to remove invasive species in Slovenia triggered by civil initiatives, societies and schools. In Prvačina a poster was created to raise awareness about the existence of ambrosia and its harmful effects, that influence our health as well as cause economic damage to local farmers.

3.

Our next idea was to create an internet application, which would show a map of various invasive plants and their whereabouts in Slovenia. We created the GeoForm application (The mapping of invasive species, 2015/16 (OŠ Dornberk) together with dr. Blaž Repe from the Geography Department of the Philosophical Faculty, University of Ljubljana. The application is easily and quickly accessible by using smart phones, tablets or laptops with an internet connection. We can insert locations of various invasive plants that we come across in our environment, on the way to school or working place, on our excursions and hiking trips.

The application is available on the following link:

http://arcg.is/1Ra2siH

You can see the application of data on the following link:

(File: Mapping of invasive plants and a short film on the mapping)

The results of our research:

The students of our school searched for the invasive plants and mapped them on the GeoForm application, thus starting the mapping of invasive species in Slovenia, and this is something we are extremely proud about.

We drew a graffiti and then created a short film where we show the procedure of mapping invasive species in our region. We also provide information about how to apply data in the GeoForm application “The mapping of invasive plants 2015/16 (OŠ Dornberk).” By inserting information on the invasive plants in other areas as well a detailed and useful map of invasive species is being created. With the data thus provided we inform the inhabitants, suitable institutions and local authorities about the location of various invasive species. This information can then be used on a national level by suitable authorities so that they can take action and get rid of the harmful species.

INVASIVE PLANTS ALL OVER THE WORLD

Also we got some information about invasive species in some other countries, for example in Romania.  There the most invasive species are Acer negundo, Ailanthus alissima, Amorpha fructiosa, Lyc ium barbarum, american maple(artar american), willow (salcam pitic), sea buckthorn fence (catina de garduri), hemlock (cucuta), barley mile (orzul soarecilor), malin of autumn (malin de toamna), weeds.  In Ukraine the most invasive species are ambrosia, collorado beetle and rapana venosa.

WATCH OUT - IN THE PHOTOS THERE ARE INVASIVE SPECIES!

Almost all countries agreed that we cannot ruin invasive species (maybe some of them), but tecnology could help us stop spreading them.

With technology we could also:

-         warn people abouth them with social media or new applications to locate the new species. That's the reason why we present a new application that you can also use to locate invasive species.

HOW TO USE THE APPLICATION, YOU CAN SEE HERE.

Summary te11, Székely Mihály Szakképző Iskola, Hungary

Technology has been generally changing throughout the world, and each person feels that they have access to a lot more technology than in the past. They note that it has evolved in a variety of fields, including in the construction industry, where modern machines enable much smaller construction times than two decades ago. They do not all agree on the environmental impact however, as some stress the advancements made have brought positive results, e.g. dealing with natural disasters, while others point out that the environment has rather been neglected in favor of development, especially in third world countries.
